“An Irish Racing Education” Circa 1972 - 1977
April 2026
-
“This series of nine artworks reflects my early experiences of learning about horse racing in Ireland.
Between the ages of eleven and fifteen, in the 1970s, I travelled regularly with Matt, my father's farm manager, to racecourses around the country. Matt was deeply knowledgeable about the racing world and knew trainers, owners, jockeys, and bookmakers, and through him I absorbed the rhythms, rituals, and quiet intensity of the sport. There is no grand message here — simply a desire to share those formative experiences. In truth, this body of work also offers me a welcome pause from the weight and seriousness of my previous series, The Magdalene Laundries.”

Print information
All images are digital collage. Each image begins as a gathering — fragments of found imagery, textures, painted and drawn elements, and at times AI-assisted material. These are raw components. I dismantle, rework, paint into and rebuild, then layer digitally until they resolve into something entirely new. The final image is not generated. It is composed.
They are printed on German Etching Archival Hahnemühle 320gsm paper, with archival pigments. Each print is signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity.
All works are available in 4 sizes, limited editions:
1x A0 (841 x 1190mm)
